Complete reordering and internal redecoration of St John the Baptist Church, Meopham. The rendered image above shows the works to be carried out in phase 1, which include replacement of the tiled & timber flooring to a new heated limestone floor, and new sanctuary area brought forward into the nave.

The replacement of the church furniture will create a greater emphasis on the users of the church, whilst providing a greater emphasis on to the original features of this medieval church that were lost during a Victorian reordering...

The pews are to be replaced with Moller church chairs which not only create greater practicality than the current pews, but again restore the church back to furnishing methods more akin to its age. The seating constructed from the most traditional of methods, utilizing things such as hand woven paper cord seats and cloth book sacks, and is entirely flexible in its placement.

The altar has been designed to reflect the simplicity of its function, that moreso of a table than a grand gesture. Keeping once more with the ethos of the reordering, and also maintaining the emphasis on the existing rear of chancel worship area & altar.

Finally, the lighting replacement removes the exisinting visible floodlights and replaces them with pendants; custom designed by Louis Poulsen for this exact church environment. This brings main highlighted emphasis away from the roof, and down towards the congregation themselves. Hidden LED uplighters maintain a gentle ambiance of lighting within the roof.

Subject to DAC approval, works are expected to commence towards the end of this year. A second phase of works, which involves moving the main entrance of the church and forming a new floating glass vestry will begin shortly after.
